Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI-M leader, Maik Sarkar, has called for unity against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

This clarion call has come just ahead of the Tripura assembly election which is scheduled to be held next year.

Reportedly, while speaking during an event, the state's former CM accused BJP in Tripura of ''looting votes'' during the by-polls held recently in the state.

''BJP grabbed votes by using terror tactics and throttling the voice of democracy,'' media reports quoted him as saying.

He further alleged that the saffron party is murdering democracy in Tripura.

According to him, there is a section of people in Tripura who exercised their franchise defying the terror tactics applied by the BJP.

Commenting on the recent change of Chief Minister of Tripura, he said, '' The moment party realised that the people of Tripura are getting detached from the government and the party, they (BJP) immediately changed the Chief Minister.''

He also attacked the incumbent Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and alleged that he won the by-polls from the Bordowali constituency by massive poll rigging.

" The state will be destroyed, if BJP comes again in power,'' Sarkar added.
