Tripura Feels Tremours of 5.6 Intensity Earthquake Originating in Bangladesh

There was localised panic among the populace of the state of Tripura as they felt the ground tremble.

AGARTALA: An earthquake of 5.8 intensity on the Richter scale hit the neighbouring country of Bangladesh on the morning of Saturday. Several locations in India including the states of Tripura, Assam, Mizoram and West Bengal felt the tremors of this earthquake.

The tremors hit the state of Tripura in India, at 9:05:31 local time on Saturday, alongside the tremors that were felt throughout Bangladesh, North Eastern India, and parts of Myanmar.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported also reported that the quake occured on Saturday morning at 09:05:31 IST and was reported at a depth of 55 km. In a post on social media platform X, the NCS wrote, “Earthquake of Magtnitude:5.6, Occurred on 02-12-2023, 09:05:31 IST, Lat: 23.15 & Long: 90.89, Depth: 55 Km, Location: Bangladesh.”

According to the Google Android Earthquake alert system, the 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the capital city of Agartala and originated 55 kilometres deep in the Ramganj region of Bangladesh.

There was localised panic among the populace of the state of Tripura as they felt the ground tremble. At the time of filing this report, there have been no reports of damage from the state of Tripura.

According to the West Bengal Disaster Management Department, no damage has been reported from anywhere in the state as of yet. “The final report has however not yet been received at the time. There have been no reports of earthquake-related damage as of yet,” mentioned an official.

No reports of harm to people or property were made from the eastern metropolis, according to representatives of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Kolkata Police. However, the earthquake did trigger a scare among the population of the city.

A separate seismic event occurred in Ladakh at 8:25 a.m. on Saturday; the magnitude of the earthquake was 3.4 on the Richter scale.
