Agartala: Tripura police is taking a tough stand against wilful violators of the lockdown restrictions and has already registered cases against 211 persons under the National Disaster Management Act-2009 and IPC sections which have the penal provision of fine and imprisonment up to three years.
Manik Das, Superintendent of Police, West District said they have decided to go for tough action as, despite repeated request, a section of people are violating the rules and moving in the roads causing threat for others. Initially, the police tried to motivate people through warnings and mild actions but all these appear to be futile, forcing the authority to be tough.
He said in addition to 211 persons against whom cases have been filed, another 1,104 persons are going to face various kinds of punishment. The police have already seized 58 bikes and scooters for violating the lockdown restrictions.
Meanwhile, a local club of Ramnagar Mukti Sangha has initiated a WhatsApp group with the local people and looking after any problem they are facing. They also kept close contacts with the police so that in case of any necessity, the police can come to their help.
