Tripura: Political Violence in Bishalgarh, Several Arrested

Situation of the region remains tense after the incidents of Wednesday.

AGARTALA: Tripura Police arrested 5 people in relation to the political violence between members of the Congress party and the BJP in Bishalgarh on Wednesday.

The people were arrested under the sections of the Arms Act from different locations of Bishalgarh in the Sepahijala district of Tripura on Thursday morning. The arrested people are said to belong to the Congress party as per the complaints filed by the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Reports also mentioned that two crude bombs were also defused by the experts from police in the Routhkhala area of Bishalgarh in Tripura on Thursday.

Police also lifted the Section 144 of CrPC on Thursday morning after the deputy chief minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma and state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee visited the area and held meetings with the police. But security measures still remain tight in the region following the political tension.

The members of the Congress party allegedly threw three bombs after BJP workers reportedly opened fire during political clash of Wednesday. The incident had caused the injury of 12 people including five people from the fire and emergency services.

However, Congress party members blamed sub-divisional police officer of Bishalgarh, Rahul Das for the violence and demanded his immediate removal.

Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman mentioned: "Das had served as OSD of the deputy chief minister for a long time. He is encouraging hooliganism of BJP cadres."

Security at Bishalgarh in Tripura has been beefed up to prevent further escalation of tension.

As per reports one Sikander Ali had to be admitted in the Bishalgarh hospital in critical condition. Said to belong to the Congress party, he sustained grievous injuries when a BJP worker named Mann Sarkar opened fire at a crowd.

One Congress party worker reportedly sustained grievous injuries after a BJP worker allegedly opened fire at an event. The injured Congress worker, identified as Sikander Ali, was immediately admitted to the Bishalgarh sub-divisional hospital in a critical condition.

Tripura BJP worker identified as Mann Sarkar opened fire leading to chaos among the crowd.

The injured personnel of the fire and emergency services of Tripura who sustained injuries are Ranjit Das, Jayanta Bhowmik, Pralyadh Banik, Sujit Saha and Zakir Hussain.
