AGARTALA: After Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha allegedly remarked that Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma should not be termed "Maharaj," a protest by various tribal social groups and the Tipra Motha party broke out in several districts of Tripura.
On the other hand, Hangsa Kumar Tripura, a member of the TIPRA Motha district council, organised a protest march on Wednesday late at night at Khumulwng in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
When the BJP's state executive meeting was held on May 21 in the Charilam Assembly Constituency, part of the Sepahijala district, Dr. Saha was quoted by a local newspaper as telling his party's workers not to refer to Pradyot Manikya as a Maharaja. This led to the discovery of the Chief Minister of Tripura's statement.
However, Pradyot Kishor, according to the Tipramatha supporters, is currently doing a lot for the state's indigenous population. He will spend the rest of his life being referred to as Maharaja.
Meanwhile, Pradyot Debbarma, the leader of TIPRA Motha, has urged the Opposition in Tripura to join together in order to defeat the BJP in an upcoming Assembly byelection in the Sepahijala district. Debbarma added that politics was a "filthy game" than he had thought in a video message on Tuesday, adding that some of his party's officials were considering joining the BJP. The remarks were made the day after the Tripura BJP state executive meeting.
Earlier taking on twitter, Pradyot Debbarma wrote, “While I maintain personal respect for you Manik Babu I have to state that no one , NO ONE has spoken for our indigenous people after elections apart from me ! And I am sorry but if anyone plays with our sentiments there will be repercussions in the long run . We are not anyones vote bank.”
