Tripura To Get AIIMS Soon, Says Manik Saha

Saha announced the same while inaugurating the 17th foundation day of Tripura Medical College and BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital.

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday announced that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be set up in the state soon.

Saha announced the same while inaugurating the 17th foundation day of Tripura Medical College and BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital.

"Initiatives have been taken to set up AIIMS in the state,'' he said.

He also said that setting up an AIIMS will boost the health infrastructure apart from enhancing better medical studies and better treatment.

"This medical college will be equipped with advanced infrastructure and veteran doctors which will eventually offer better medical services,'' he added.

Notably, Saha has served as a professor in the Dental Department at Tripura Medical College and BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital.

He also urged students and doctors to work for society too apart from just studying and serving patients to build a better Tripura.

Meanwhile, the central government has proposed to name all 23 AIIMS, including Delhi, based on regional heroes, freedom fighters, historical events, or monuments of the region.

According to a report by PTI, most of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has submitted the list of names after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sought suggestions in this regard.

Sources aware of the development told PTI that AIIMS several AIIMS are in operation, while others are being set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) are known by their common names and are recognized only by their specific location.

"So, the Union health ministry has drafted a proposal to give specific names to all the 23 AIIMS, which include those fully functional, partially operational, or under construction," PTI quoted the sources as saying.

Six new AIIMS – Bihar (Patna), Chhattisgarh (Raipur), Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Rajasthan (Jodhpur), and Uttarakhand (Rishikesh) were approved in the first phase of PMSSY and are fully operational.
