AGARTALA: Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) has commenced the process of upgrading its transmission infrastructure by establishing a 400 KV power substation in West Tripura district, as announced by a state minister.

As part of this ambitious initiative, the existing 132 KV power substation at Suryamaninagar in West Tripura district will be transformed into a 400 KV unit, with an estimated investment of Rs 191.20 crore.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath shared, "If the facility is created at Suryamaninagar, the existing unit will become a hub for distributing power, not only within the state but also to neighboring Bangladesh." He elaborated on this during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Accompanied by Power Secretary Abhishek Singh and TSECL Managing Director Debasish Sarkar, Nath conducted an on-site visit to inspect the existing substation, intended for a substantial facelift.

The state's generated power will be aggregated at the Suryamaninagar substation, effectively transforming it into a power hub. The government is actively seeking funds for this modernization project.

The minister further outlined the expected rise in power demand, from 393 MW in 2023-24 to 703 MW by 2030-31, as well as the increase in power export from 100 MW to 200 MW, as per assessments by the Centre.

Nath emphasized that TSECL is not only expanding its power production but also enhancing its transmission system to meet future demand. Power generation from the Rokhia gas-based project will be increased from 63 MW to 120 MW.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways, in a collaborative initiative with IRCTC Ltd., is about to operate a ‘North East Discovery’ tour to promote the relatively untraversed North Eastern states of India. The specially curated tour on the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train will commence its journey from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on November 16. The tour will cover Guwahati, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Kaziranga in Assam; Unakoti, Agartala, and Udaipur in Tripura; Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland; and Shillong and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya over the 15-day tour.
