AGARTALA: The Ulta Rath Yatra was taking place in Kumarghat, in the Unakoti District, when a tragic occurrence occurred on June 28 that resulted in a total of seven fatalities and numerous injuries.
The event, according to the police, happened during the "Ulto Rath" procession, which is the Hindu god Jagannath and his two siblings' "return" journey following the Rath Yatra festival.
Iron was used to construct the ornate chariot. It struck an overhead electric wire, causing a surge of electricity that killed six people there and one more while they were being transported to the hospital.
According to reports, an explosion happened in Kumarghat at around 4:30 pm as a result of a chariot pushed by thousands of people colliding with a 133kv high-tension overhead wire.
Many of the injured are claimed to be in critical condition at a neighbouring hospital where they were taken as soon as they were hurt. An inquiry into the event has been opened by the police, who are attempting to ascertain how the chariot got into contact with an electric wire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the surviving family members of those who died in the Ulta Rath Yatra accident in Tripura and Rs. 50,000 for those who were critically hurt.
Additionally, Chief Minister Manik Saha went to the location and evaluated the situation firsthand. He expressed shock and claimed that such a tragic tragedy had never happened in Tripura's history.
Taking on twitter, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha wrote, “In a tragic incident, several devotees have lost their lives & some other people sustained injuries due to electrocution during Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat today. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones in the tragedy. In this difficult time, the State Government stands by the side of the affected families.”
