Tripura will be Northeast's logistics hub: CM Biplab Deb

Guwahati: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb today claimed that with the improvements in rail, road, air and waterway connectivity, Tripura would be the logistics hub of the northeast.

Deb said that three projects are now underway to link Tripura with Bangladesh through rail, road and waterways.

"After the completion of these projects, Tripura and the neighbouring states of the northeast would be connected with other parts of India and the world via Bangladesh," he said after hoisting the Tricolour at the Assam Rifles ground in Agartala today.

Biplab also bragged that Agartala has topped the Smart City rankings among 10 cities of the eight states of the northeast."

"According to the Smart City rankings released by the Centre, Agartala was at the 56th place, up from the 74th position, among 100 smart cities in India," he further added.

CM Deb further informed that in order to provide employment opportunities to thousands of people and to earn revenue, the state government has taken on ambitious projects and schemes.

Talking about crime in the state, he said that due to constant and rigorous efforts of his government, the crime rate has gone down by 32 percent, and crimes against women have declined by 40 percent.

He also said that 34,000 Reang refugees who fled from the neighbouring state of Mizoram would be rehabilitated in Tripura. The central government has announced a Rs 600 crore package for the same.
