AGARTALA: The voting has come to an end for the legislative assembly elections for the state of Tripura with a good turnout across all the constituencies of the state.

The Chief Electoral Officer of the state of Tripura announced that the state assembly polls concluded successfully on Thursday evening with a total turnout of 81.10% recorded at the official closing time. It should be noted that voting continues beyond the stipulated time if voters are still waiting to cast their votes at the polling centres. He also mentioned that all the polling stations saw the presence of polling agents from more than one political party.

Temporary hiccups were also reported in the state elections with the failure of 40-45 electronic voting machines out of the total 3337 polling stations. The faulty pieces of equipment were swiftly replaced by the authorities and voting resumed in these centres.

Multiple incidents of sporadic election-related violence was also reported as supporters of the major parties clashed at different places. But these incidents were soon taken under control by the members of the security forces posted at the destinations. One person was injured in the Sepahijala district while two more were in the Gomati district.

The Election Commission also served notices to the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party units of the state for the violations of the Model Code of Conduct under the accusation of campaigning when the voting was already underway in the state.

The exercise of voting rights by the members of the Bu community after a gap of more than 20 years was one of the major highlights of the Tripura Elections this year. Voting by the members of the third gender and the large turnout among the first-time voters were also noteworthy developments.

While BJP leader Dr Manik Saha claimed an absolute majority in this election, TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma expressed his confidence in about 90% turnout of voters in the state and the domination of his party in the results.
