West Tripura DM Apologizes After Brutely Stopping Wedding, Evokes Strong Reactions

The DM of West Tripura Sailesh Kumar Jadav issued his apologies on Tuesday for having forcibly stopped a wedding ceremony in an unruly fashion while enforcing COVID-19 protocols.

Tripura- The District Magistrate of West Tripura Sailesh Kumar Jadav issued his apologies on Tuesday for forcefully stopping a wedding mid-way in an unrestrained manner while implementing COVID-19 protocols. 

The video of this incident had gone viral where he was seen confronting the guests and other people in a brute fashion and ordering policemen to chase the people out from the venue. He was also seen tearing the permission slip issued by him for the ceremony. In the video, you can hear the DM using indecent words and terms like "arrest them" and "hit them."

The video which instantly went viral on Twitter did not sit well with the users. Even though many Twiterratis acknowledged his decision to stop the wedding for violating COVID-10 protocols, the DM received backlash for the unruly way of implementing his power. Many people who are extremely outraged termed this as a brazen misuse of power and demanded his suspension. Read more

Meanwhile, after the video of this incident went viral, the BJP MLA of that area along with another lawmaker of the party ruling party Sushanta Chowdhury wrote to Manoj Kumar Chief Secretary on Tuesday demanding the removal of the DM. 

"I apologize if any individual or group is pained by last night's action. But what was done last night was only for the benefit and well-being of people. My aim was not to pain or humiliate anyone," said the DM in his statement of apology.
