Youth in Tripura Arrested for Supplying Drugs at Covid Care Centre

Police said during the search brown sugar was found concealed inside the case of the charger to his friend Dipankar Roy, who was admitted at the center.

AGARTALA: A person has been apprehended for supplying drugs to a person at a Covid care centre in Panisagar in North Tripura district.

According to reports, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) security personnel foiled an attempt to pass on drugs inside a COVID-19 care centre.

They detained a peddler identified as Shibu Debbarma in connection with the incident that occurred on Thursday.

Police said Shibu Debbarma came to deliver a mobile charger to a patient at the centre. During the search, brown sugar was found concealed inside the case of the charger to his friend Dipankar Roy, who was admitted at the centre.

Debbarma is a resident of Ambasa Magazine Para in Dhalai district.

Further, the security personnel recovered seven pouches of brown sugar hidden in the packet carrying the mobile charger.

A case was registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and was later produced in front of the Dharmanagar district sessions court.

On the other hand, the second wave of coronavirus in Tripura has so far killed 154 people, including two children.

A total of 53,872 people have been infected with the virus, of which 20,604 were infected this year alone. The overall infection rate is 4.83 per cent this year compared to 5.35 per cent last year. A total of 538 people have died so far, including 154 deaths this year.
