Twin Earthquake In Northeast

SHILLONG: Early on Tuesday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 hit Tura in Meghalaya, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). There were no reported fatalities or property damages.

The National Center for Seismology tweeted, "Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.7, Occurred on February 28, 2023, 06:57:18 IST, Lat: 26.04 and Long: 90.11, Depth: 29 Km, Location: 59 km N of Tura, Meghalaya."

This is the second earthquake to be felt in the Northeast on the same day. A 3.2-magnitude earthquake earlier shook the Noney district of Manipur. The 25-km-deep epicentre of the earthquake was at 2.46 a.m.

The NCS announced the location of the earthquake in a tweet: "Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.2, Occurred on February 28, 2023, 02:46:39 IST, Lat: 24.67 & Long: 93.66, Depth: 25 Km, Location: Noney, Manipur, India."

Adding up to the series of earthquakes, Shillong on Thursday morning witnessed an earthquake of magnitude 3.9, informed India’s National Centre for Seismology. As per the reports, the quake had hit at a depth of 46km under the epicentre. The epicentre was near Shillong in East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.

The earthquake struck at 8:56 am in the morning on 16th February, 2023. Towns and cities nearby the epicentre felt minor shaking, the report stated. The areas which felt the tremors include Cherrapunji, Chhatak, Mairang, Nongstoin.

The National Centre for Seismology announced an earthquake of 4.3 on the Richter scale that had hit the town of Yuksom in Sikkim. The tremors were felt at around 4:15am and at a depth of 10 kilometres on 13th February, Monday.

The NCS tweeted regarding the same mentioning details about the quake. "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 13-02-2023, 04:15:04 IST, Lat: 27.81 & Long: 87.71, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 70 km NW of Yuksom, Sikkim, India," the NCS informed in the tweet. No case of casualties, property damage or injuries has been reported as of now.
