Assamese singer Bhitali Das who was loved by many for her mesmerising and melodious voice passed away on Wednesday in Guwahati. She was suffering from COVID.
Bhitali, best known for her songs – 'Junbai dekhote xajim ghar akhoni…torae jolabo saki..Junbai ai beji ati diya buli'…, 'Kinu Sawonire sala mk oi deha xir xirai gol moina jan oi'…., 'Nodi barhile oi…..ujan uthile oi', 'Hate nu meli meli a jaanmoni aha nu kaxe sapi'.
The singer's death has been mourned by many including famous singer Zubeen Garg who, expressing his condolences said – "Thousands of songs, lakhs of stories, uncountable memories we shared together. She was one of the strongest co-singers I've ever worked with. I will miss you, Vitali.
One of her fans Gunikhan Sonowal tweeted, "Our Bihu was never complete without Zubeen da and Vitali."
Popular singer from Assam Zublee Baruah said, "I pain so deep can't be expressed in words. We lost you too soon. Our unparallel bihurani (queen of Bihu), the Golden voiced Jaanmoni. Be happy wherever you are dear."
Born on June 6, 1979, Bhitali was just 41 years when she died. She is survived by her husband and daughter.
She had sung more than 5000 Bihu songs with Zubeen Garg and various artists. Some of her popular music albums include Jaanmoni, Joonbai, Rangdhali, Rohedoi, Bogitora, Enajori, among others.
Das had been singing Assamese songs for more than two decades.
