Assam-Mizoram border tension: Assam man killed, Min Parimal Suklabaidya visits Lailapur

A man from Cachar in Assam was brutally killed by Mizo miscreants. The man identified as Intaz Ali was kidnapped and then killed, according to reports. Assam minister for excise and environment and forest, Parimal Suklabaidya visited the family of the deceased and assured all help. An ex-gratia amount would be announced soon. The minister condemned the incident.

Tension along the Assam-Mizoram border started on October 17, when almost 20 houses and shops were set on fire in the border area. The incident had left several injured. Suklabaidya earlier visited Lailapur area in Cachar district on Thursday to take stock of the situation, and also reassured the locals that the state government is with them.

The minister was accompanied to Lailapur by Dilip Kumar Dey, Deputy Inspector General, Southern Assam; Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar; V Meena, the Superintendent of Police, Cachar; Jagdish Das, Additional SP of Cachar, and others.

Suklabaidya also mentioned that under the direction of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the Assam government has recommended NIA inquiry in the entire series of incidents in the Assam-Mizoram border.

While interacting with the locals of Lailapur, Suklabaidya informed that CM Sonowal is personally monitoring the situation and is in talks with the Union Government to resolve the dispute.

The minister also announced that Lailapur Police Outpost would be converted into a full-fledged Police station soon to prevent any such incidents in the future.

The minster has appealed the people of Assam side in Lailapur to maintain peace and not panic about the situation.
