The first test match at the ground was played between India and West Indies from Jan 23 to 29, 1975 while the first ODI was played almost 12 years later on Jan 17, 1987.
Ravi Shastri has his name etched in Wankhede history for his swashbuckling 6-sixes in an over against Baroda in a Ranji Trophy game during the 1984-85 season.
India lifted the 2011 World Cup Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium on 2nd April, 2011 after beating Sri Lanka in the final.
Sachin Tendulkar played his last test match (also his 200th) at this historic stadium on November 14, 2013, against the West Indies.
