The Rashtriya Ulema Council of South Salmara-Mancachar staged a protest against the soaring prices of vegetables. General Secretary of the Council, Nurul Islam said that the Assam government is anti-people and they have utterly failed in addressing people's issues. Council members also said that in case the government fails to reign in prices of commodities now, it might translate into a much bigger agitation across the state. Prices of vegetables have been soaring despite Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asking concerned departments to take appropriate steps to control prices. A task force was set up too. Protesters burnt effigies of CM Sonowal and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury.
