ASEBSC lift 67th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship title

Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club lifted the 67th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship title defeating Oil India Limited Football Club (OILFC) 2-1 in a well contested final held at the Judges’ Field here today. It will be the fifth occasions when the trophy will visit to the tent of local outfit.

GUWAHATI: Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club lifted the 67th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship title defeating Oil India Limited Football Club (OILFC) 2-1 in a well contested final held at the Judges' Field here today. It will be the fifth occasions when the trophy will visit to the tent of local outfit.

ASEBSC scored both the goals through Juwgbla Brahma in the first half of the game. Milan Basumatary reduced one for OILFC.

It was the second consecutive finals of Bordoloi Trophy where these two outfits clash each other. ASEBSC today took sweet revenge on their defeat in the final of previous edition of the meet.

OILFC went into the ground staying a little ahead than ASEBSC. The side displayed consistent performance in their previous four games in the competition and won all. However veteran coach of ASEBSC Ganesh Rai nicely regrouped his team even though he didn't get the service of his key striker Manjit Rabha because of cards related issues.

Rai knew it very well that if OILFC got space in the early part of the game it would be very difficult for his side to take control over the game. So he took attack is the best defence strategy.

ASEBSC played good attacking soccer throughout the game. In the first half they earned six corners and closed on many occasions to score. Finally they opened the account through Juwgbla. The first goal of the game was a beautiful one and the entire credit of this goal should go to Juwgbla. The player was near the centre line when he received the ball. He moved a few steps ahead and took a fantastic powerful shot which beat the opponent goalkeeper. Juwgbla scored his side's second goal in the added time of first half converting a spot kick.

OILFC in the second half tried hard to reduce two goals deficit and on many occasions they went for all out attack. Finally Duliajan's outfit got the success in the 69th minutes when they were awarded a penalty. Milan Basumatari scored from the spot. Later also they made several raid in ASEBSC's goal. However veteran goalkeeper Daoga Brahma was rock solid below the bar and on many occasions he single handedly stopped OILFC to score. The ASEBSC goalkeeper was later adjudged the best player of the final award by the Assam Sports Journalists Association. He also received the best goalkeeper award of the meet. Juwgbla collected the best player award.

The award function was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Moloy Bora along with several officials of Gauhati Sports Association and many veteran sports organizers. ASEBSC received the champion trophy along with cash award of Rs one Lakh. OILFC collected a purse of Rs 50,000.
