Guwahati: Pugilist Abhijit Baruah from Assam on Sunday defeated Hritesh Kasan from Delhi in a match organized by World Boxing Council and World Boxing Federation.
He won in the 67 kilograms category after knocking out his opponent.
Baruah will play his next match of the tournament in Mumbai.
According to reports, earlier, Baruah had got his name registered in the Guinness Book World of Records by running barefoot.
While speaking to the media over his victory, he thanked the people of Assam and Jorhat in particular for their support and also sought their blessings for his next match at Mumbai.
''It was my ambition to build a name for myself in professional boxing. Since I out a strong effort and accordingly it paid me,'' he added.
