Assam Football Association has revived the Assam State Premier League Football after a gap of 7 years and the next edition of the competition will kick off on November 1

GUWAHATI: Assam Football Association has revived the Assam State Premier League Football after a gap of 7 years and the next edition of the competition will kick off on November 1. Altogether eight teams will take part in the tournament.

Addressing a media gathering the president of the Assam Football Association Naba Kumar Doley said that the tournament, carrying huge cash awards, will be held on home and away basis and the champion team will represent Assam in the next season of I league III. The eight teams which will be the part of the Assam State Premier League this season are Jorhat Town Club, Moran Town Club, Karbi Anglong Morning Star, Dima United FC, Khwrwmdao FC, Gobinda Basumatary Academy, United Chirang FC and Eleven Star Club. The opening match will be held between Eleven Star Club and Gobinda Basumatary Club at Bongaigaon on November 1. Champion in the group stage will receive a cash award of Rs 50,000 and the champion team of the meet will collect a purse of Rs 3 lakh. The cash award for runners up team is Rs 2 lakh. The media briefing was also attended by several key officials of the Assam Football Association that included vice president Santanu Pujari, secretary Sangrang Brahma and veteran member Hemendra Nath Brahma.

Secretary Brahma informed the media that the Assam Football Association has taken a series of steps to develop football across the State. “Soon Assam Football Association is going to host the Assam Women State League and Assam State Futsal Championship. We have also taken initiative to start the U-13, U-15 and U-17 Youth League, ”said Brahma

He also added: “We will conduct an elaborate coaches education programme for our state coaches.”
