Assam: Sprinter Hima Das Qualifies For Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022

Das popularly known as Dhing Express failed to qualify for the Olympics as she could not complete the 22.80 seconds mark needed to qualify for the same.

Guwahati: Ace sprinter Hima Das has qualified for the upcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games, 2022 in the 200 m event.

Apart from Assam's 'Dhing Express' ace sprinter Dutee Chand, MV Jilna, NS Simi, Srabani Nanda, and S Dhanalakshmi have also qualified for the 4x100 m relay event of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

In June this year, the two-time Asian gold medalist Hima Das had grabbed a gold medal in the women's 100m for the second time in two days at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships 2022.

In March last year, Das popularly known as Dhing Express failed to qualify for the Olympics as she could not complete the 22.80 seconds mark needed to qualify for the same.

Prior to this, she had defeated Tamil Nadu's Dhanalakshmi in the 200-meter women's final at the Federation Cup National Senior National Athletics Championships in Patiala on March 19, 2021.

Das was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assam in February 2021. She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships, with this winning feat Das became the second athlete from Assam after Bhogeswar Baruah to win a gold medal at an international event.

She was also conferred with Arjuna Award by the President of India on 25 September 2018.
