GUWAHATI: Guwahati is ready to host the BWF 100 Series Badminton Championship-Guwahati Masters which will begin on Tuesday at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium at the Sarusajai Sports Complex. Altogether 316 players will take part in the six-day competition where the first two-day will be used to host the qualifying round.
State shuttler Ashmita Chaliha received direct entry in teh competition and three more players from Assam-Isharani Baruah, Arijit Chaliha and Suraj Gowala will compete in the qualifying round to earn a main round berth.
The secretary of the Assam Badminton Association informed The Sentinel that altogether 19 countries are participating in the championship where competition will be held in 5 various events. This time the number of female (177) participating players is higher than then male (139).
The preparation of the Championship is already completed. Several courts were laid down at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium and players also started to arrive in the city.
