NEW DELHI: P V Sindhu, India's two-time Olympic winner, advanced to the BWF World Tour Finals playoff stage with a straight-game victory over Germany's Yvonne Li in her second Category A match in Bali.

The fourth season of the BWF World Tour Finals, which will be hosted by the Badminton Association of Indonesia and sanctioned by the BWF, will take place in 2021.

The competition is part of the Indonesia Badminton Festival, which includes three tournaments: The Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open, and this one, all of which were held at the same place earlier this year. Notably, one must compete in both events to qualify for the World Tour Finals, and the performance during the tournaments was taken into account.

Sindhu, 26, beat world No. 23 Li 21-10, 21-13 in 31 minutes to become the first Indian to win the coveted championship in 2018. She was also a finalist the year before.

Sindhu broke into the top 20 of the BWF World Ranking in September 2012, when she was only 17 years old. She earned a medal at every global event since 2013 because to her outstanding performance in 2015. After Zhang Ning, she is the second female to win five or more medals in the world championships.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she became the first Indian badminton competitor to reach a final. She was given second place after losing to Carolina Marin of Spain. She won a bronze medal in her second consecutive Olympic appearance at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals at the Games.

The defending world champion will face Pornpawee Chochuwong, Thailand's top seed, in her last group match. Kidambi Srikanth, on the other hand, was defeated 18-21, 7-21 by Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, a three-time junior world champion.
