South East Asia Junior Badminton Good start for India

The competition is being held in U-15 and U-17 categories and players from six countries are taking part in it

GUWAHATI: South East Asia Junior Badminton Championship got under way at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here today. The competition is being held in U-15 and U-17 categories and players from six countries are taking part in it.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Harmeet Singh, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police,Guwahati, Vice President of the Badminton Association of India Sekhar Chandra Biswas, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Nibedan Das Patowary, Senior Development Manager of Badminton Asia Thana Arikrishnan, Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar and the secretary of the Assam Badminton Association Omar Rashid.

Opening day witnessed several matches of the competition. India made a solid start in both U-15 and U-17 categories . In the U-17 category India beat Maldives 5-0 and later won against Bhutan by identical margin. In the U-15 category India won both their matches against Bhutan and Sri Lanka by 5-0.
