Captain Cool Rani: Living Example of Sport's Transformative Power!

Rani made her debut as the youngest player in the national team to represent India at the World Cup in 2010.

NEW DELHI: Popularly known as the captain cool Rani of the Indian women's hockey, Rani Rampal is an ideal example of how the game of Hockey, the Indian National sport has an immense transformative power as she had scripted history by leading the Indian women's hockey team to the semifinals of the Olympic Games for the very first time in history.

She has been a phenomenal player who has scripted many histories since she ever set foot on the turf when she was just 14.

Rani made her debut as the youngest player in the national team to represent India at the World Cup in 2010. Her journey has full of struggles and as she faced each obstacle, her way to a successful career path hardened.

It may be mentioned that in the year 2020, Rani Rampal became the first female hockey player to receive the highest sporting honor in the country, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. The excellent sportsperson was also honored with the fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri in the same year. Rani Rampal while talking to the media, fondly shares, "When I explained to my unaware parents about what a Padma Shri meant, my father broke down with joy."

Further, she has etched her name in the annals of history as led her team at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Rani is the daughter of a cart-puller and a housemaid mother in Haryana's Shahabad. Immense popularity according to Rani has taught her simplicity and humbleness at all points of time as she knew extreme poverty and her sheer dedication shot her to the pinnacle of the sport.
