GUWAHATI: Khelo India Junior Girls and Youth Women Open Boxing Championship will be held at the SAI Complex in the city from September 16. Altogether 9 States from the region including West Bengal will participate in the tournament.
Addressing a media gathering the Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India Hemanta Kalita said, "Around 200 boxers, 70 of them from Assam, will take part in the 7-day meet."
He also added that there will be 13 weight categories in junior and 12 in the youth. Four boxers from each category in the four zones competition (the other three will be held separately in different venues) will qualify for the final. Guwahati will also be the venue of final round. First three position holders in the final round will receive a cash award.
Executive Director Satish Kumar Sarhadi was present in the media briefing.
