Assam: International Cricketer Sadanand Viswanath Trains Cricketers in Assam

DOOMDOOMA: International cricketer and former wicketkeeper of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team, Sadanand Vishwanath has started teaching the game to the players of the state and he has started training local students in the Doomdooma town playground. This is also the second that the cricketer has visited the state of Assam and he is very happy to visit the state and interact with the local crickets. Cricketer Sujit Rane has also arrived in the town to train the players in terms of their fitness.

The Doomdooma Cricket Academy has organised this 17-day cricket coaching camp from July 9 to July 25. An organising committee was also constituted with Dr Pranabjyoti Deka as the lead for the smooth conduct of this sporting event. President of the Assam Cricket Association, Taranga Gogoi was also present for the inaugural event. More than a hundred boys and girls from the region have taken part in this training camp.

Recently Uma Chetry of Assam was picked for the Indian women’s cricket team for the upcoming three-match T20I and ODI series against Bangladesh which began on July 9. The 20-year-old Uma, who hails from Bokakhat, has been selected as a wicket-keeper of the squad. All six matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team.

She is the first Assamese to make her way into the national team. Following her selection, ACA felicitated Uma Chetry. Uma was handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh by the ACA President Taranga Gogoi and Secretary Tridib Konwar. President Taranga Gogoi congratulated Uma for her achievement and termed it a historic feat for Assam in cricket. “We are extremely glad and happy with this development. I hope this will open up a new road for our boys and girls in the coming days. I’m sure in future, we will have more players who will go on to represent India,” Gogoi said.
