Assam’s Jintimoni Kalita in the Playing XI of MI in Opening Match of WPL

The Adani-owned Gujarat Giants face the Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians in this opening match.

MUMBAI: The opening match of the first Women’s Premier League will flag off on the night of March 4 and Jintimoni Kalita of Assam will be playing for the Mumbai Indians in this match.

The Women’s Premier League is an attempt by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to popularise the sport of cricket among the girls of the country. In order to do so, the board had started the Women’s Premier League in the lines of the popular Indian Premier League.

The first match of the tournament will be hosted at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium in Navi Mumbai at 8 PM on March 4. The Adani-owned Gujarat Giants face the Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians in this opening match. Harmanpreet Kaur is the captain of the Mumbai Indians while Beth Mooney leads the Gujarat Giants.

Jintimoni Kalita who was enlisted by the Mumbai Indians will be seen in action in the opening match of the tournament. The 19-year-old cricketer was roped in by the Mumbai Indians franchise for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) for Rs 10 lakh. She is also the only player from Assam in this tournament. She is a left-handed batter who can also bowl medium pace at any part of the match.

Jintimoni Kalita is considered as one of the known female cricketers of the country. She was included in the Challengers Trophy on two occasions, before eventually being drafted into the Indian Under-19 Women’s Quadrangular series that took place last year. She also made it to the list of probable players for the inaugural U-19 World Cup, but couldn’t make it to the final team led by Shafali Verma.

Another key point regarding the tournament is that the tickets for all the matches will be free for all women and girls.
