NEW DELHI: The Indian team for the upcoming series against the West Indies was unveiled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday. The teams for the Test and One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies were unveiled by the nation's top cricket organisation.

A three-match ODI series and a two-match Test series between India and West Indies are scheduled. Additionally, India will compete in five T20 International games; the teams for these games will be revealed later.

Squads:

India’s ODI Squad: Rohit Sharma (Capt), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shardul Thakur, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.

TEST Squad: Rohit Sharma (Capt), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane (VC), KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Navdeep Saini.

After a poor WTC final, the selection committee's patience with senior players Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav eventually ran out, and the pair was dropped from the Test team. Since returning to the Test team a year ago, Pujara's declining performance has been a cause for concern, and Umesh Yadav's dismal performance against Australia in the WTC final sealed the deal.

Young batsmen in the top order Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar received their first Test selections, while Navdeep Saini made his long-awaited comeback.

Both Tests and ODIs were suspended for Mohammed Shami. Ajinkya Rahane, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, and Axar Patel all maintained their positions in the test team.

It's interesting to note that Rahane, who was almost invisible for about 15 months, was appointed vice-captain of the Test team after India won the World T20 final, with Rahane finishing as the tournament's leading scorer thanks to a valiant 89-run first innings performance.
