Mumbai: Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants by 5 wickets in a clash of two debutant teams in IPL at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday.

Chasing 159 runs to win, Gujarat Titans reached the target in 19.4 overs losing 5 wickets. Matthew Wade (30) and Hardik Pandya (33) played vital knocks in the first half of the innings. Then David Millar (30 off 21) and Rahul Tewatia (40no off 24) put on 60 runs from 34 balls for the 5th wicket.

Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants posted a below-par score of 158/6 off 20 overs as they recovered from a precarious 4-29 caused by a devastating spell by Mohammad Shami.

They crawled to 32/4 in the Powerplay as Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni, a 22-year-old from Delhi, repaired the innings with a fine partnership for the fifth wicket. Hooda, who blasted some superb boundaries, completed his fifty off 36 deliveries.

Hooda saved Lucknow Super Giants with a fine fifty and though Badoni continued to keep the scoreboard ticking for a couple of more overs, in the end Lucknow Super Giants could manage only a sub-par total in their first innings.

Brief scores: Lucknow Super Giants 158/6 in 20 overs (Deepak Hooda 55, Ayush Badoni 54, Krunal Pandya 21 not out; Mohd Shami 3/25, Varun Aaron 2/45) lost to Gujarat Titans 161/5 in 19.4 overs (Rahul Tewatia 40no, Hardik Pandya 33, David Millar 30).
