GUWAHATI: Delhi Capitals captain David Warner completed 6,000 runs in the Indian Premier League here on Saturday. He is the lone overseas batter to score 6,000 runs in this cash-rich competition.

Warner, who opened the innings today against Rajasthan Royals at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara, made 65 of 55 balls. It was the third occasion when a batter scored 6000 plus runs in the history of IPL. Virat Kohli (6,727 runs) of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Shikhar Dhawan (6,370 runs) of the Punjab Kings are the only other batters to score more runs than the Australian cricketer in the competition.

Warner, the orange cap holder in the tournament, today turned out to play 165th IPL matches and altogether scored 6039 runs from his 165th innings. There are four centuries and 57 half centuries in his name.

After the end of the game the captain of Delhi Capitals during the post match presentation said that losing a few wickets early in the innings made their job difficult when they came out to chase 200.

“When you are chasing 200, you got to start well in the power play and unfortunately, once again we lost early wickets. We are professional athletes and have to go back in the nets. It’s about executing, and hopefully we can regroup,” Warner said.
