NEW DELHI: The 2023 ODI World Cup schedule has been released by the International Cricket Council. The tournament begins on October 5 with a match between the 2019 champions England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
The highly anticipated match with Pakistan will be played on October 15 in the world's largest cricket stadium, Ahmedabad, which has a seating capacity of 1,32,000 spectators, 32,000 more than the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Team India will start its campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
According to reports, this will be the first World Cup to visit northeast India, with Guwahati one of the 12 locations chosen to host the matches, including the warm-up games.
During the actual event, matches will be played at 10 different locations: Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
The warm-up games will be held in Hyderabad, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram from September 29 to October 3.
The match between India and Pakistan will be the two teams' ninth ODI World Cup encounter. India has triumphed in each of the last seven meetings. In their most recent 50-over World Cup match, played at Old Trafford in 2019, India defeated Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requested that the India vs. Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 match be moved to Kolkata, Chennai, or Bangalore due to political considerations. Despite their protests, the world's largest cricket stadium, The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, will host the match on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
