Centurion: Team India thrashed South Africa by 113 runs on the final day of the first test match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
With this victory, the Men in Blue have scripted history by securing their first-ever win in a test match at this venue. India has also taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match test series.
The Proteas had a daunting task in front of them as they needed 211 runs with six wickets in hand on the final day of this fixture. The odds for the Proteas to win was minimal and the Men in Blue were the clear favourites.
The weather could have played a spoilsport as the forecast suggested rain could interrupt the final session. However, that did not happen and the play went on as usual.
Proteas skipper Dean Elgar was putting on a valiant fightback as he played one of his typical knocks but Jasprit Bumrah eventually got the better of him and sent him back to the pavilion for a decent 77.
Quinton de Kock also chipped in with quickfire innings of 21 runs off 28 balls but failed to rescue the sinking ship as Shami dismissed him.
India clearly had the upper hand going into the lunch break as they managed to restrict South Africa to 182/7.
Returning from lunch, the Indian bowlers needed to pick the remaining three wickets to secure the win. The bowlers needed just two overs to complete this task.
Later, the hosts were bowled out for 191 with Bumrah and Shami picking three wickets each and Ashwin and Siraj claiming two apiece.
KL Rahul was declared the Player of the Match as he scored 123 and 23 in his first and second innings respectively.
