India Bowled Out for 109 Runs on Day 1 of the Third Test

INDORE: The third test match of the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy started today morning in the Holkar Cricket Stadium of Indore in Madha Pradesh between the national cricket teams of India and Australia.

Batting first, Indian batters were seen struggling against the Australian bowlers. The guests managed to bowl out the home team at a score of just 109 runs in a total of 33.2 overs.

This is the Indian team’s 14th-lowest total at home in test cricket and fourth-lowest against Australia at home in one inning. Umesh Yadav's fiery 17 from 13 deliveries managed to crawl the Indian score over the 100-run mark. The followings are some of the lowest totals of India against Australia in test cricket at home.

104 in Wankhede Stadium in 2004, 105 in Pune in 2017, 107 in Pune in 2017 and 109 in the Holkar Stadium in 2023.

Ex-captain Virat Kohli managed to score 22, which was the highest score among the Indian batters in the first innings of the third test. Opener Shubman Gill managed to score 21. Axar Patel was the only batter who remained not out for the Indian team, but no one else was able to him company at the crease.

Matthew Kuhnemann was the star bowler for the Australian team. He claimed five Indian wickets in his 9 overs. Nathan Lyon claimed three more wickets in his 11.2 overs while Todd Murphy claimed one wicket in his six overs of bowling. Mohammed Sami was run out.

The Australian batting innings also started well on the first day of the match. They had scored a total of 71 runs, trailing by just 38 runs behind the first-innings score of India at the time of the afternoon tea break. They had also lost the wicket of Travis Head which was taken by Ravindra Jadeja.
