New Delhi: Indian batter Mithali Raj on Wednesday announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket.
Taking to the micro-blogging site, she posted a long note, wherein, she said, ''Like all journeys, this one too must come to an end. Today is the day I retire from all forms of international cricket''.
"It was an honour to have led the team for so many years. It definitely shaped me as a person & hopefully helped shape Indian Women's Cricket as well," the note read further.
She made her debut in the year 1999 when Mithali became one of the greatest players to have played Indian cricket and retired from the cricket by becoming the leading run-scorer in all the three formats of Indian women's cricket.
Realizing her last 23 years to be the most challenging, enjoyable, and successful, Mithali announced retirement from her cricket game. Her age is 37 and her last game will remain to be the 2022 women's world cup for India. Though, her team could not reach the semi-final.
"I set out as a little girl on the journey to wear the India blues as representing your country is the highest honor. The journey was full of highs and some lows. Each event taught me something unique and the last 23 years have been the most fulfilling, challenging, and enjoyable years of my life,'' she added.
She further thanked the BCCI and Jay Shah Sir (Honorary Secretary, BCCI) for all the support I have received - first as a player and then as the Captain of the Indian Women's Cricket Team.
''It was an honor to have led the team for so many years. It definitely shaped me as a person and hopefully helped shape Indian Women's Cricket as well," she avowed.
