IPL 2022: IPL Unveils New Format For 2022 With Two Groups And Seedings

All 10 IPL franchises will be divided into two groups as Group A and Group B. Each of the teams will play 2 matches with the teams in their group and will play 1 match with the teams in the other group.

NEW DELHI: The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League this year will be played in a new format that will be interesting and very unique from all other editions of the tournament.

On Friday 25 February the IPL through a release has shared information about its adaption of the completely new format of the match for 2022 tournament.

According to the new format, all 10 franchises will be divided into two different groups as Group A and Group B.

Group A will be consisting of IPL teams Mumbai Indian (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capital (DC), Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).

On the other hand the second group i.e. Group B comprises the teams Gujarat Titans (GT), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Each of the teams are meant to play two matches with the teams in their own group and they will play one match with the teams in another group throughout the entire season.

The ten franchises will play a total of fourteen league matches among which seven matches will be home matches and the rest of the seven will be away matches.

In the IPL 2022, a total of 70 league matches will be played as a whole and this will be followed by four playoff matches.

The 70 matches will be organized across 4 international standards venues in Mumbai and Pune of India. However the venues for the playoff matches is not yet selected.

Four matches each will be played at the Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and three matches each will be played at Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium located in Pune.

This year IPL season will be held in a bio-secure environment at a single centre so that air travel can be prevented as it is regarded as a big threat to the spread of coronavirus which may affect the players and the matches scheduled.

The IPL 15th edition will be starting from 26 March 2022 and will be concluded by 29 March 2022.
