IPL 2023: Prabhsimran’s ton guides Punjab Kings to beat Delhi Capitals

NEW DELHI: Opener Prabhsimran Singh's brilliant maiden IPL century (103 off 65) guided Punjab Kings to beat Delhi Capitals by 31 runs in Match No. 59 of IPL 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, here on Saturday. With this win they reached the sixth spot in points table with 12 points.

Put in to bat first, Punjab Kings managed a competitive 167/7 in allotted overs. In reply, DC scored only 136 runs losing 8 wickets.

Punjab Kings got off to a disastrous start as they lost three key wickets -- Shikhar Dhawan (7), Liam Livingstone (4) and Jitesh Sharma (5) -- inside the Power-play. Punjab were struggling at 45/3 but Prabhsimran stitched a vital stand of 72 runs off 54 balls for the fourth wicket with Sam Curran to get them out of trouble and put a fighting total on the board. On the other hand, Ishant Sharma was the most successful bowler for Delhi Capitals with his 2-27.

In reply, Delhi Capitals’ openers David Warner (54 off 27 balls) and Philip Salt (21) put on 69 runs in power-play. But they lost six wickets in next 4 overs. Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Axar Patel, Manish Pandey failed in middle overs.

Harpreet Brar claimed 4 wickets for 30 runs.
