Middle Order Batsman Sarupam Purkayastha Guides Assam To Big Total

During his innings Sarupam made a good partnership with Rishav Das. The duo put 110 runs on the board

GUWAHATI: A classy knock from middle order batsman Sarupam Purkayastha guided Assam towards a decent total in their Ranji Trophy tie against Vidarbha which got under way at Lalhi today. Invited to bat, Assam finished the day I at 289-6 in their first innings. Sarupam contributed 113 on the board.

Assam, invited to bat, lost the first wicket when Subham Mandal returned into the pavilion without opening his account. Riyan Parag made good start and one time he was simply toying with the bowlers but failed to extend his innings too long. The batsman got out on 48 which came in from 49 balls. There were five boundaries and three sixes in his innings. Thereafter Sarupam took the centre stage and played a brilliant knock on way to score the maiden century of the season. He was on the wicket for nearly 49 overs and faced 175 balls to score 113. There were 12 boundaries in his innings and he also hit three sixes.

During his innings Sarupam made a good partnership with Rishav Das. The duo put 110 runs on the board. Rishav got out on his individual score 44. Denish Das and Kunal Saikia were the other major contributors. Denish contributed 35 runs while captain Kunal remained not out on 26.

Meanwhile at the ACA stadium, Barsapara, Chhattisgarh, elected to bat, scored 290-4 in their first innings at stumps on Day I. Shashank Singh and Amandeep Khare remained not out on 75 and 68 runs respectively. Ajay Mandal (63) also scored half century in the first innings.

At the Nehru Stadium in the city Tamil Nadu finished the first day 256-7 in their first innings against Jharkhand. B Indrajith (100) scored century and R Sai Kishore contributed 81 on the board. Rahul Sukla picked up 3-57. Anukul Roy (2-29) also bowled well.
