Prasar Bharati, GPC Make Winning Start

Two former first class cricketers Bimal Bharali and Parag Das attended the inaugural function along with the treasurer of Sports Journalists’ Federation of India Bidyut Kalita.

Guwahati: Prasar Bharati and Gauhati Press Club (GPC) won their respective matches on the opening day of the TOPCEM-ASJA Inter Media Cricket Championship held at the Nehru stadium here today. Prasar Bharati defeated ASJA by 4 wickets while GPC won against Media Management by six wickets.

The competition was kicked off this morning with the game between Prasar Bharati and ASJA. Chasing 123 to win, Prasar Bharati reached the target in 18.4 overs losing six wickets. While Old war horse Gautam Sarma scored a crucial 18 balls 21, Nekib Ahmed (19) also contributed well with the bat for the winning side Earlier elected to bat, ASJA were bowled out 122 in 15.5 overs. Diganta Deka played a quick fire knock of 24 from 13 balls. Amit Bhattacharjee and Sanjoy Basfore bagged 3 wickets each.

The second game of the day was well contested. Gauhati Press club had to fight hard to earn full points against Media Management. Tanmoy Dey (3-22), Kishore Talukdar (2-16) and Pranab Jyoti Das (2-20) bowled well in the game to restrict Media Management 111 in 19.1 overs. Raj Hussain (23) was the top scorer. Two good knocks from Mriganka Sarma (29) and Abuddin Khan (27) helped Gauhati Press Club to reach the target in 19.3 overs losing 4 wickets. Raj Hussain returned with 2-19.

Earlier two former first class cricketers Bimal Bharali and Parag Das attended the inaugural function along with the treasurer of Sports Journalists' Federation of India Bidyut Kalita and president of the Assam Sports Journalists' Association Subodh Malla Barua.
