Prithvi Shaw Presents His Case to Selectors With Double Hundred Against Assam In Ranji Trophy

GUWAHATI: A solid unbeaten double ton from opener Prithvi Shaw put Mumbai on a very strong position in the Ranji Trophy match against Assam at Amingaon cricket ground here today. Mumbai finished the day I scoring 397-2 in their first innings. Prithvi remained not out on 240 and captain Ajinkya Rahane (73) gave him accompany.

Although the match was supposed to be held at the Nehru Stadium but later it shifted to Amingaon Cricket ground. It was the first occasion when Amingaon Cricket ground hosted a first class match.

Invited to bat first in the game, Mumbai never looked in trouble throughout the day and scored runs on rapid space. The first wicket partnership between Musheer Khan (42) and Prithvi put 123 runs on the board. Mumbai lost one more wicket today in the form of Armaan Jaffer (27).

The day could easily be termed as the day of Prithvi Shaw. The former Team India member made his intention clear once he took guard and started to hit the bowlers from the very early part of the innings. The batter took just 107 balls to score 100 and that too before lunch. Later he added another 140 runs in his innings today. The batter altogether faced 283 balls in the day and remained not out on 240. There were 33 boundaries and one six in his innings.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane also looked good in the middle and he was giving nice support to Prithvi Shaw after Jaffer ran out on Mumbai's total 197. Rahane faced 140 balls and remained not out on 73. There were five boundaries in his innings. The duo already put on unbeaten 200 runs for the third wicket.

Among the bowlers of Assam only Mukhtar Hussin was able to pick a wicket on day I.
