Punjab Kings thrash Chennai Super Kings

Mumbai: Punjab Kings beat defending champion Chennai Super Kings by 54 runs to register their second win in the IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium here on Sunday night. This was Dhoni-led CSK's third loss of this season.

After scoring 180 runs on board, Punjab Kings showed diciplined bowling performance and restricted the opponent at just 126 runs in 18 overs. Debutant seamer Vaibhav Arore took 2 wickets for 21 while Liam Livigstone also claimed 2 wickets for 25. Spinner Rahul Chahar grabbed 3 wickets for 25. Shivam Dube played an attacking knock of 57 off 30 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Dhoni scored 23 runs from 28 balls later of the innings. Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo failed to open their account.

Livingstone strode in to bat at 14/2 in the second over and did not show any nerves as he blazed to 60 off 32 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and five sixes. He and Dhawan rescued Punjab Kings from a precarious position of 14/2 in the second over.

Choudhary proved expensive as he conceded 52 runs off his four overs, claiming one wicket. Chris Jordan, playing his first match for Chennai, returned the best figures of 2/23 while Dwaine Pretorius claimed 2/30.
