Cape Town: South Africa thrashed India by seven wickets in the third and final test match in Cape Town to clinch the three test match series 2-1.
The proteas have successfully maintained their impeccable record of never losing a series to the Men in Blue on home turf. As far as India is concerned, its quest for a maiden series victory in South African soil continues.
India set a target of 212 runs, which the South Africans comfortably chased it down with 7 seven wickets to spare in the second session of Day 4 amid lengthening shadows and emotional celebrations.
The proteas batters were up against a formidable Indian bowling attack spearheaded by ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. But it seemed as if the south African batsman rose to the occasion and they put on a stellar show for their supporters.
It was led by Keegar Peterson, the man of the moment, whose gritty knock of 82 played an instrumental role in South Africa's comfortable run chase. This sublime knock will definitely be up there as one of his finest performances with the bat.
It came on the back of a fine 72 in the first innings. Peterson finishes the series as the leading run-scorer with 276 in six innings.
This match also had an element of drama in it vis-a-vis the stump mic theatrics surrounding the DRS review against Dean Elgar, the proteas skipper, on Day 3.
Like the previous day, the first 30 minutes in Day 4 witnessed another DRS controversy, a spat between Virat Kohli and Rassie van der Dussen and a dropped catch off a well-set Keegan Peterson.
Meanwhile, South African seamers Kagiso Radaba and Marco Jensen put on a sublime bowling display and made life difficult for the Indian Batsman. Both of them were the leading wicket tackers in the match with 7 a piece in both the innings.
Virat Kohli's men had taken a 1-0 lead in the three match test series and were hopeful of scripting history for Team India. But the proteas bounced back stronger and emerged victorious in the second and third test match thereby protecting their fortress.
