SHARJAH: Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 4 wickets in the first match of Super Fours stage of Asia Cup at the Sharjah International Stadium, here on Saturday. Chasing 176 runs to win, Lankans reaches the challenging target in 19.1 overs losing 6 wickets. Openers Pathum Nissanka (35) and Kusal Mendis (36) added 62 runs in 39 balls to build the foundation. Later Danushka Gunathilaka (33) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (31) countributed vital runs.

Earlier, an excellent attacking knock by Rahmanullah Gurbaz (84 off 45) powered Afghanistan to a challenging 175/6 in 20 overs.

Apart from Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran also played an impactful knock (40 off 38) for Afghanistan, who would have hoped for a blistering finish but they lost wickets in a cluster in the last few overs. Agencies
