WRNE annex U-16 Cricket Tourney title

Guwahati: We R North (WRNE) East emerged champion in the TOPCEM-ASJA Inter-School and Academy under-16 Cricket Tournament title that concluded at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati today. We R North East defeated Royal Cricket Academy by 74 runs in the final.

Put in to bat first, We R North East rode on half centuries by Ayushman Malakar (53 not out) and Rajveer Singh (51) to post a challenging total of 174 for five in the 20 overs. In their chase, Royal Cricket Academy were restricted to 100 for nine in the 20 overs. Barring Dipankar Paul (35) none could put up any impressive score for Royal Cricket Academy. Earlier, his teammate Chintu Das notched up three wickets for 20 runs off two overs.

Prabal Kalita, Rajveer and Ayushman of We R North East also shared two wickets each to keep the Royal Cricket Academy boys under pressure all along the innings.

Ayushman, who slammed five sixes and three fours apart from taking two wickets, was adjudged player of the final. His teammate Prabal Kalita was named the best bowler and best player of the tournament.

Dipankar Paul of Royal Cricket Academy and Lakshya Bhatti of South Point School were adjudged best batsman and best fielder of the tournament.
