Birmingham: Indian women's fours team scored a comprehensive victory against Norfolk Island and advanced into the semifinals of the lawn bowls competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday.

The Indian quartet dominated proceedings and cruised to a comfortable 11-0 lead after three ends. Norfolk Island did put up a fight in the latter stages of the tie but it was too little, too late for them as India eventually emerged victorious in the quarter-final match 17-9.

The Indian quartet includes Assam's Nayanmoni Saikia, Lovely Choubey, Pinki, and Rupa Rani Tirkey.

The four will lock horns against New Zealand in the semifinal match on August 1.

Meanwhile, the men's team of Sunil Bahadur and Dinesh Kumar went down against Northern Ireland 8-26 later in the day.

Earlier, Bindyarani Devi won India a fourth medal on a successful day at the Commonwealth Games weightlifting arena in Birmingham, bagging a silver medal in the Women's 55 kg weight class.

The 22-year-old from Manipur lifted a total weight of 202 kg with a superb attempt of 116 kg in her final turn in clean and jerk to leapfrog England's Fraer Morrow (198) and finished just 1kg adrift of Nigeria's Adijat Adenike Dlarindye, who ended with a total of 203 kg, a Games record.
