CWG 2022: Manipur's Shushila Devi Wins Silver in Women's 48kg Judo

The final match between Sushila Devi and Whitebool was very exciting as both of them judokas didn't allow dominate each other.

New Delhi: Manipur's Likmabam Sushila Devi on Monday bagged a silver medal in the women's 48kg category after losing to Michaela Whitebool of South Africa in the final in the golden score period via Waza-ari.

The final match between Sushila Devi and Whitebool was very exciting as both of them judokas didn't allow dominate each other. It was a fierce battle between the two until the last whistle.

This was followed by the competition in the golden score period, where Whitebool won the gold medal. She force Sushila Devi's shoulder to touch the mat and won one point.

Sushila defeated Priscilla Morand of Mauritius in the women's 48 kg category semi-finals.

The 27-year-old judoka from Manipur defeated Morand with 'Ippon'. Ippon is a bet where the competitor drops his opponent on the mat with such force and speed that the opponent lands on his back.

Sushila booked their place in the quarter-finals earlier in the day by beating Harriet Bonface of Malawi via ippon.

Sushila also won a silver medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. In addition to this, she also won the bronze medal at the Junior Asian Championships in 2015.
