NEW DELHI: The latest edition of the biggest football competition of the planet flags of today. The competition flags off today in the Al Bayt Stadium of Qatar.

A grand opening event of the tournament will be taking place today at the Al Bayt stadium. This stadium is located about 40 km from the capital city of Doha and it is expected to be at its full capacity of 60000 viewers for today's event. With a retractable roof, it is one of the biggest of the stadiums which are hosting matches of this tournament. According to reports, Al Bayt gets its name and design inspired by the tents of the nomads of the Gulf region. South Korean band BTS's member Jungkook is scheduled to perform in the event.

The tournament kicks off on the evening of Sunday, just after the cultural presentation. The culturals are scheduled at 7:30 PM and will be over within the next two hours. Host Qatar will play Ecuador in the opening match of the tournament. The match timing has been mentioned as 9:30 according to Indian Standard Time.

Matches will start at 6:30 PM on the other days, making it a good timing for the Indian football lovers. Indian viewers will be able to watch the ceremony as well as the matches live on Sports18 and Sports18 HD channels. They got the broadcast rights of the competition in India. The OTT partner in India for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is Jio Cinema. They are supposedly showing the matches for free to the users of their application. Live commentary and updates of the matches will be available on many websites.

A total of 32 teams are taking part in this tournament. The teams have been teamed into eight groups. And all the matches will be hosted across eight stadiums over the time period of almost a month. Today's match will be between two members of Group-A.
