GUWAHATI: Assam came back strongly in the Santosh Trophy and registered their first victory in the competition at Kokrajhar today. In their second game in the cluster III Assam defeated Arunachal Pradesh by 4-1. The winner scored two goals in either-half of the game.
Assam, lost their first game to Goa, played an attacking football throughout the match on Friday and needed 21 minute to take the lead through Milan Basumatary. Jwngbla Brahma made it 2-0 within 8 minutes of that goal
Assam continued to attack the opponent's goal in the second half also and were successful to increase their margin when Jwngbla again placed the ball in the net. Home team got the final goal of the match on added time and this time Jigyas Deka put his name on the scoreboard. Arunachal Pradesh returned one goal through Hage Gendha in the 49th minute.
In their next game Assam will now face Nagaland and it will kick off at 6 pm on January 1.
Meanwhile in the other two group league games, held today at the same venue, Nagaland defeated Tamil Nadu by 1-0 and Goa-Uttar Pradesh tie came to an end 2-2 draw.
