PARIS: French tennis player Gael Monfils on Wednesday was ruled out of the US Open due to a foot injury, which he suffered last week in Montreal. The 35-year-old clashed with rising British star Jack Draper in the Montreal Masters last-16 on Thursday. At the start of the second set, Monfils sustained a foot injury and he required an immediate intervention.
After a visit from the doctor, Monfils tried to continue the match but it was too painful so he decided to retire from the match.
"Hello! Tough one tonight in Montreal. The 1st exams that I have had are not great. I have decided to fly back to Europe to consult with my doctors. I will keep you updated as soon as possible. Thank you again for all your messages of support," Monfils tweeted after the match. IANS
