GUWAHATI: Gauhati Sports Association will resume the sports activities once they receive green signal from the State Government, said the secretary of the association Dhruba Jyoti Kalita.
Government recently gave permission to start non body contact games in the State. Training of tennis, badminton and a few other games already got under way in the city. However the athletes of other games are waiting for permission to resume their practice.
Generally the football season of the GSA begins in August every year. However due to COVID-19 it was not possible this season.
Talking to The Sentinel Kalita today said, "We are eager to start the sports activities but until we don't get clearance from the Government we can't do it."
A section of the player and soccer coaches expressed doubt whether it would be possible for GSA to organize the league this season as no activities have started till date. Even players are not able to resume training.
When the point was raised Kalita said, "We know the value of the tournament for our local players. So we don't want to keep pending any tournament. It may not be possible right now but I can assure you whenever we get the permission we will organize and that too as early as possible. Our next Working Committee meeting will be held on August 31 and the future of pending tournaments would be one of the key agenda for discussion."
